Summary of the last few classes

Well, Monday this week we didn't have class, because poor April was sick, and today, Jeana, Mela and I only made it for the last two classes because we had our play performances in the morning. Which was fun let me tell you. The play is getting a little old, but my lines are coming second nature to me pretty much now, which helps. Last week we had discussions and tests....busy, busy, busy.

Wow!

This play experience is sooo interesting and fun!  Let me tell you, it's A LOT of time and effort.  Wow, didn't fully realize how much went into these things.  Lighting, music, movement, expression, and lines.  It is truly exhausting, but will be totally worth it come opening night.

Another day!

Hi....Friday we found out we have a test on Monday/Wednesday and Friday.  That sucks because I also have to prepare for my performance this weekend with three hour rehearsals every night.  We watched videos and discussed further the roles of interpreters.

What a day!

Today we discussed some of the complains and issues that have come up as a result of the club meetings. Wow. I haven't been to that many meetings, because of my busy schedule, but I tell you what, someone needs to take charge. And good for you for stepping up April! We need guidance it seems. I know we don't have much more time, for those graduating, to really do much at all in or with the club, but heck, if we're raising money, it would be nice to know what we are raising it for? Duh!

Enough with that subject, we also watched a video featuring Doug, and I thought he was much easier to read than any other video we've seen in class. I found his signing to be a lot clearer and to the point. He didn't use many classifiers, which also helped me when trying to put together the concepts.

I don't know about the rest of you, but sometimes, I have such a HARD TIME getting through the day. It isn't the instructors or the content we are learning....mainy the people in the class as a whole, and all the conflicting or different, if you will, personalities and vocal volumes. My head is splitting by the end of the day and I just want to go sit in a quiet place for hours to recover. I have found that I am dealing with this issue a lot better this semester. I feel that I am more used to everyone and the flow of the class.

Asking a question......oh my lord! Really, A LOT of the time, the questions people have, just require some additional reading on the students part for them to get answers. I get really frustrated when valuable class time is being wasted on the question/answer period. Yes! It is perfectly acceptable to ask questions whenever, but seriously, wait for the right time! And ask questions that need experience or guidance, don't ask a stupid question you can find out yourself or ask Ruby or April later. Please! We are all really frieked that the year is already almost up, and some of us aren't as prepared as we would like to be, just think of the classtime wasted on stupid questions....for real!

Interpreting.......what am I getting myself in to?

I seriously want to walk out of class some days and go cry in a corner from frustration. I get so overwhelmed with the videos and voicing. I don't think anyone's voicing skills are where they should be at this point. And to think soon we will have voicing performance tests in Aprils office...that concept makes me sick to my stomache. I'm not ready! I don't feel confident! Scared!

And today, we were told from now on we will be having quizzes in the last class because some people were too lazy to read a few pages and know about the scenarios discussed in our Educational Interpreting Book. I'm glad to be getting a few more grades in, but come on people....read the book.

Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad this blog was put in place because now I can vent a bit about my concerns/annoyances from ITP classes and participants in general.

Class last week

I need to do better writing in my journal blog daily. I just have so much stuff going on in my life right now. I'm like April, well, not really cause I don't have kids and a husband and house to deal with, but I am so darn busy all the time. If I'm not in class, I'm working, if I'm not working, I'm at home doing homework, in the library or at rehearsal. My life....whoa! I don't have time to breathe this semester.

Last week we took our red and blue book tests. I was sick on monday, so had to make up the test on Wednesday. I also met with April and Ruby to get help on my lines for the play.

So nervous, because the play is less than two weeks away. Wow! I'm praying we do well! Keep your fingers crossed.

Class 2/11/08

In the morning we voiced some crazy video clips of April's parents. Whoa.....couldn't for the life of me figure out what the heck either of them were talking (signing) about. I need NEED to work on receptives.
In the afternoon, we discussed some important issues of interpreting, such as the code of ethics and when to apply it in the field. It is a very "grey area" in certain situations...
