Interpreting.....yikes!
So, today I interpreted in front of the class, and didn't do as poorly as I had expected. I am comfortable with the group, and am not usually nervous, but I guess it is just knowing all eyes are on me....focused on my every sign, concept and error.. But that really isn't true. Everyone has good positive feelings knowing I rose to the challenge and didn't allow all the other elements bother me. I was proud of myself. Production errors, I can handle. Those are easy to fix with practice.
On a different note.....class is ending friday... ONE MORE DAY! CRAZYNESS!

yeah
We have a video coming up again to do, and Sarah and I are working together. We also have a play in rubys class for our final exam. Then, out to practicum everyone goes.
April
Hey.....wow, it's already April and we only have two more days of class.....amazing! Anyway, class went by quickly today. I learned a couple new signs, which is always nice, and I was interviewed for the dvd we will send out to prospective ITP students, which was cool. Not much else to report. I'm not the best blogger....I don't enjoy going on and on about things. I'm straight forward. So, there you have it.

blog
I just can't get into the swing of blogging everyday, so a short summary of recent classtime is good enough for me.
Today we worked on interpreting videos from utube. and I tell you what, it is great to get back into actual physical interpreting. We haven't done it in soo long, I feel a bit out of practice. Anywho...I enjoyed interpreting the video about Story and truth. It was fun.

Another week of class
Today and Monday were interesting, because we interpreted videos. Monday, it was Goldilocks and the three bears, today, it was video clips, one about body language and the other, about homework. Challenging. Whew. Well, besides that, a lot of discussions have taken place. Too many to hone in on in my blog. More to come.

March 19
Classes all day, as usual. We were given two group assignments, one from April and one from Ruby. Aprils is due next Wednesday, yikes. Rubys is our final exam for the class.
Only 6 more classes to go.....kind of relieved and kind of not. I'm not sure how I feel about being almost finished with the ITP program. I will say that it is extremely nice to be finished with Practicum.... except some additional observing hours for more experience.
Yay! I really need the extra time to focus on my art. I need to dedicate the time to my Pottery for the rest of the semester.

Another Day
Well, it was a low key slow paced relaxing day. Nothing stressful. Which was nice, after a week break. It is crazy to think we only have 7 classes left before Practicum....wowzers...how time does fly.

class today
Well, I voiced....surprisingly, I don't think I did too bad. It was much better than I was expecting.
That's it!
That's it!

Class recently
hmmm... well, today we worked on voicing...and gosh, I'm a little nervous to go Wednesday... I'm sure it will be better than I expect, but it's a little stressful. I also thought the discussions in the last class were helpful and constructive. Ruby's presentation day friday is a little scarey....especially based on the content we have to talk about. Oh, talking would be fine....but signing all the words and terminology....yikes.. A little worried about that. Hopefully all will be well. Hope everyone gets a chance to go out and enjoy the sunshine and warm weather....I'm going out soon... Hooray!

Summary of the last few classes
Well, Monday this week we didn't have class, because poor April was sick, and today, Jeana, Mela and I only made it for the last two classes because we had our play performances in the morning. Which was fun let me tell you. The play is getting a little old, but my lines are coming second nature to me pretty much now, which helps. Last week we had discussions and tests....busy, busy, busy.

Wow!
This play experience is sooo interesting and fun! Let me tell you, it's A LOT of time and effort. Wow, didn't fully realize how much went into these things. Lighting, music, movement, expression, and lines. It is truly exhausting, but will be totally worth it come opening night.
Another day!
Hi....Friday we found out we have a test on Monday/Wednesday and Friday. That sucks because I also have to prepare for my performance this weekend with three hour rehearsals every night. We watched videos and discussed further the roles of interpreters.

What a day!
Today we discussed some of the complains and issues that have come up as a result of the club meetings. Wow. I haven't been to that many meetings, because of my busy schedule, but I tell you what, someone needs to take charge. And good for you for stepping up April! We need guidance it seems. I know we don't have much more time, for those graduating, to really do much at all in or with the club, but heck, if we're raising money, it would be nice to know what we are raising it for? Duh!
Enough with that subject, we also watched a video featuring Doug, and I thought he was much easier to read than any other video we've seen in class. I found his signing to be a lot clearer and to the point. He didn't use many classifiers, which also helped me when trying to put together the concepts.
I don't know about the rest of you, but sometimes, I have such a HARD TIME getting through the day. It isn't the instructors or the content we are learning....mainy the people in the class as a whole, and all the conflicting or different, if you will, personalities and vocal volumes. My head is splitting by the end of the day and I just want to go sit in a quiet place for hours to recover. I have found that I am dealing with this issue a lot better this semester. I feel that I am more used to everyone and the flow of the class.
Asking a question......oh my lord! Really, A LOT of the time, the questions people have, just require some additional reading on the students part for them to get answers. I get really frustrated when valuable class time is being wasted on the question/answer period. Yes! It is perfectly acceptable to ask questions whenever, but seriously, wait for the right time! And ask questions that need experience or guidance, don't ask a stupid question you can find out yourself or ask Ruby or April later. Please! We are all really frieked that the year is already almost up, and some of us aren't as prepared as we would like to be, just think of the classtime wasted on stupid questions....for real!

Interpreting.......what am I getting myself in to?
I seriously want to walk out of class some days and go cry in a corner from frustration. I get so overwhelmed with the videos and voicing. I don't think anyone's voicing skills are where they should be at this point. And to think soon we will have voicing performance tests in Aprils office...that concept makes me sick to my stomache. I'm not ready! I don't feel confident! Scared!
And today, we were told from now on we will be having quizzes in the last class because some people were too lazy to read a few pages and know about the scenarios discussed in our Educational Interpreting Book. I'm glad to be getting a few more grades in, but come on people....read the book.
Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad this blog was put in place because now I can vent a bit about my concerns/annoyances from ITP classes and participants in general.

Class last week
I need to do better writing in my journal blog daily. I just have so much stuff going on in my life right now. I'm like April, well, not really cause I don't have kids and a husband and house to deal with, but I am so darn busy all the time. If I'm not in class, I'm working, if I'm not working, I'm at home doing homework, in the library or at rehearsal. My life....whoa! I don't have time to breathe this semester.
Last week we took our red and blue book tests. I was sick on monday, so had to make up the test on Wednesday. I also met with April and Ruby to get help on my lines for the play.
So nervous, because the play is less than two weeks away. Wow! I'm praying we do well! Keep your fingers crossed.

Class 2/11/08
In the morning we voiced some crazy video clips of April's parents. Whoa.....couldn't for the life of me figure out what the heck either of them were talking (signing) about. I need NEED to work on receptives.
In the afternoon, we discussed some important issues of interpreting, such as the code of ethics and when to apply it in the field. It is a very "grey area" in certain situations...

Today, we did some group work watching videos and we went through our textbooks talking about the most important points. We also further discussed the videos we are to turn in on Wednesday. The tests will be on Wednesday and Friday...a reminder note.

The class had to present their children's stories today. I voiced Brittany's story and later gave my story to Jasmine...The Tortoise and the Hare. This assignment was pretty fun.
